Ride 484 Sunday 4th February 2024

LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 484 or 463 depending when you downloaded it.

I think this was an advanced ride Day everyone apart from Bob and Owen choosing to ride the Advanced so with Wayne, Andy, Steve, Peter amongst us we all knew the pace would be sharp, but we all stuck together through Tibberton and it was only at the lights in Huntley that the ride split which was a good thing really as it was quite a big group, so know Michael, David, Chris, Brian and myself would now be the rear guard, with a stiff head wind through Blaisdon and the Flaxley road was very busy as we passed the Abbey and the church up through the glorious valley with the stream in full flow gushing over the rapids in places and David setting a good tempo through the trees to the Littledean junction and now we knew it was uphill steady to start and a little respite halfway up and a low gear grind towards the top, but it’s a lovely climb up through the trees with the sun peeping out and probably feeling a little overdressed but the downhill cooled you down. Through Littledean and now we dropped down passed the Soudley ponds and on to Soudley. Now the drag up through Rusbridge a road which has been closed for many a month but there were not many potholes filled in over that period so not sure what was wrong, but soon we crossed into the valley road which would lead us through the industrial estate where the Garmin had a few errors well Garmin was right and I wax wrong so I need to put that right, but we all ended up at the steam mills end of town and on to Drybrook and through the cutting to the nasty downhill which to my surprise had been resurfaced so no pot holes but we still had to turn right before the bottom to the Lee and up to the Linton Ridge and the Penny farthing. David led us down through Aston ingham at great speed, the leading group I think took a diversion up the Conigree lane into Watery lane, we just pushed on through the Kilcot to Newent, where David peeled off for home leaving the remaining to follow the Tewkesbury road through to Upleadon where Chris said goodbye and we dropped down to Upleadon, Brian having a push for home but we slowed as Owen was mending a puncture in Orridge street, to make sure he had everything. The club was full with Di, Gill Adrian and Ken on the scenic and Frank making his /024 debut poppping in for a brew.

That was a good day thanks to you all who rode.

Yellow leader.
