Ride 490 Sunday 24th March 2024

LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 490 Sunday 24th March 2024.

0% chance of rain it said and for once they were right a beautiful sunny morning greeted us but that sneaky wind was a bit chilly. Gre at numbers this morning but the sporty ride was a bit light on the ground with most of them in Majorca, so Bob would join the advanced group with Maggie, also joining Maggie was Hulie back from her travels and Jean to get back on the saddle. With me on the intermediate were Ken as keen as ever now his leg is on the mend, David testing his knee and Frank blowing off the winter cobwebs to join us. Leaving the club we followed the Advanced ride through Middletown lane where they turned left to Highleadon and we rode down hooks lane to Kent’s green. Here the roads were full of pot holes up onto the village where we turned through to the Newent rd which we swiftly crossed and climbed up over a cattle grid beteeen the blackcurrant fields, I do f know the name of this lane but it is a little gem of a lane, great views of May hill and the surrounding area which led us up to Clifford’s Meanse, then we dropped down into Newent, the roads seemed busy with horses and cars but soon we were leaving Newent by the closing ladder factory another local landmark going, more horses and the climb up to Oxenhall where preparations were under way for the Daffodil weekend, but we pushed on in case Ken smelt the teapot then that would have caused trouble. A quick photo amongst the daffodils of the team before we cruised into Dymock and Crowfield lane where a large group of ramblers were spread across the road but soon got out the way of Ken so we just followed him through and all the way to Bromsberrow and Albright lane where there was a bit of a distraction a helicopter hovering in a field with a rope hanging out of it with a group of people holding the end, it looked like some training taking place, but no time to stop and state Frank could smell the teapot and soon cooks lane was behind us and we were sprinting for home down and around Gadfield Elm and back to the club.

We were the first home so made a brew and sat outside in the sun, Di and Gill soon joined us followed by all the Advanced ride coming home in small groups.

Tuesday evening rides start on the 2nd of April so join me on a Tuesday on the shorter ride, if your thinking of getting back on your bike for the summer nows the time, a relaxed evening ride.

Thanks to everyone who rode today.

Yellow leader.
